Waldskopf

The forest head is 538 meters high wooded hill in the district in southern Hesse, Odenwald Löhrbach. It lies on the border to the south and Trösel Abtsteinach in the east. The forest head is the highest point in the municipality of Birkenau in the circle mountain road.

On the southern slopes of the forest head many Christmas trees are grown in a plantation. Furthermore, there is one of the few vineyards in the Odenwald. On the south slope of the forest head is a Holly, which is at a height of 13 meters and an age 170-180 years one of the largest in Germany and is a nature reserve.

Waldkopf and Daumberg enclose the eastern part of Trösel, the so-called " upper village".

Natural Monument Devil's Stone

400 m southwest of the summit is the Natural Monument Devil's Rock, a large boulder from Biotitgranit. He, together with other rock a little rock sea, whose forms are a typical result of Wollsackverwitterung. The Devil's Rock is traversed by an approximately 10 cm wide Aplitgang which projects due to its greater resistance to something out of the granite.

Two legends of registers in the Devil's Stone. In the first the devil once have been tied up with a strong iron chain on the rocks. Upon his liberation to have originated in the rock by the bursting of the chain a deep furrow, which is still visible today.

The second legend tells of a huge gold treasure that lies buried beneath the Devil's Stone. Several times, the farmers of the surrounding villages tried together to find the treasure in heavy work. The stone was almost tipped over. Condition, however, was that no one was allowed to speak a single word during the work. Because some of the men irritated witches and mocked, a peasant was carried away at the end of a curse, and the action failed at the last moment.

The field name Felstone is attested since the 19th century. In the Odenwald, there is another devil stone, a rock formation in Reichenbach.
