Wale (Rapper)

Wale Folarin (pronounced wah läi; born September 21, 1984 in Washington DC as Olubowale Victor Akintimehin ) is an American rapper who achieved through a series of mixtape releases, especially in the blogosphere notoriety. He is regarded as representative of a new generation of rappers to which, inter alia, Kid Cudi, Charles Hamilton, Asher Roth and BoB be counted.

Musical Career

Whales grew up as the son of Nigerian immigrants in Washington DC on what significantly influenced his musical style; many of his songs are based on the rhythmic, go-go style that shaped the city. With the song Dig Dug ( Shake It ) he achieved notoriety in 2006 first in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia.

2007 went whale with the DJ and producer Mark Ronson on tour. This then took him to his label Allido Records, which now belongs to Interscope Records, under contract.
