History

To date, the U- 21 team of Wales could still qualify for no -aligned by UEFA tournament.

Much is also related that the U -21 long for the Welsh Association time was only a less important part. So many talents have often skipped these youth department and gave an early age her debut in the senior national team of the country. The best example is the only player legend Ryan Giggs had an appearance in the dress of the young dragon and the next day made his debut in the A- team against Germany. Since John Toshack is coach of the Welsh senior team and Brian Flynn took over the office of the U -21 coach, this opinion changed over the junior selection.

For the qualification for the 2006 European Championship Wales was solved by Germany, England, Poland, Austria and Azerbaijan in Group 6. Three victories were offset by a draw and 6 defeats with a goal difference of 9:21. Against the neighbors and island rivals England both games were lost. Against the last of the group, Azerbaijan, won both games. Finally, the crew landed on the second last, 5th place, with three different points to place third in second place, which was enough for the play-off games, there were eleven points difference.

Since the next European Championship not only the usual two years later, but in 2007 took place after the 2006 European Championships, the appropriate qualification was played in a summary trial. Starting with a preliminary round, over a short group stage with three teams and the play-off games. Wales needed only to go into the group stage. The young dragon teams from Israel and Turkey were not randomly assigned. There was only one game against each team, so that the teams away and once had home advantage once each. In the first game on 16 January 2006 the Welsh were guests at Israel and lost this game just 3-2. Since the Israelis clash with Turkey played 0-0, the last game of this group 13 was irrelevant to Wales since Israel already had four points on the credit side. Only the Turks could pass through a victory with two goals lead even to Israel. But this game ended 0-0, so both teams, Turkey and Wales were eliminated.

In qualifying for the 2009 European Championship, the team of coach Brian Flynn surprised. Were allowed to Favorites Romania and France behind and the group decided 10 for themselves. This first course eligible for the play-off games. After the team lost the opening game against France, followed by a winning streak of five games in a row. Among others, a 4-2 win on home turf against the European champion from 1988, France. Against Romania, then this winning streak was interrupted by a 0-1 home defeat. Since the two strongest competitor, but took the points with two draws himself, the last round on 9 September 2008 had to decide. By a 3-0 win in Romania placed one in front of France and Romania and moved into the play- off round one for the European Championships 2009. There they defeated England in the first leg with 2:3 and came back in the game despite a half hour in the majority do not have a draw 2-2.
