Wales women's national football team

The Welsh national football team represents Wales in international women women's football. The national reports to the Welsh Football Association and is trained by Jarmo Matikainen. To date, the Welsh selection could not qualify for a major tournament itself.

In qualifying for the 2011 World Cup, the team met with Sweden, Czech Republic, Belgium and Azerbaijan. Here Wales was the only team that lost a game against Azerbaijan, whereby only the penultimate group space was achieved despite a victory in Belgium.

In qualifying for the European Championship 2013, the team met with France, Scotland, Ireland and Israel. With three wins, one draw and four defeats of the third group space was reached, and thus missed the playoffs the runners-up.

In the FIFA rankings to Wales was after an intermediate depth work up to rank 57 in May 2006 by the three victories in the European Championship qualifier on the 37th place in August 2012 and by victories in World Cup qualifier of 2013 at number 36 improve in December 2013.

Olympic games

For the Olympic Games of 2012, the four British football associations agree that an all- British team should represent as automatically qualified team, the host country (in the name of the Olympic Committee of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). No Welsh players called - in the squad but were - in contrast to the men's team, which was led by Welshman Ryan Giggs.

Algarve Cup

The national team participated for the first time in 2002 at the Algarve Cup in part, but always played in Group C against the weaker teams.
