Walid Haj Yahia

Walid Chaddsch Yahya (Arabic وليد حاج يحيى; Hebrew וליד חאג' - יחיא, also known as Walid tzaddik, Hebrew ואליד צאדק; * 1936 in Tayyibe ) is an Arab- Israeli politician who served as Member of the Meretz Deputy Minister of Agriculture of 4 August 1992 to 18 June 1996.

Life

Walid Chaddsch Yahya was born into a family of wealthy farmers, whose ancestors for centuries worked their ancestral fertile land. It was named after the Prophet Yahya ibn Zakariyya ( dt John son of Zechariah ). He also carries in its name the honorary title Hajj. His father died when he was four years old. Therefore, his mother had to manage agriculture alone, which became his role model. At 18, he studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he earned a BA in sociology and political science. Over 23 years he worked as headmaster of a secondary school in Tayyibe and was a member of the Central Committee of the Association of Teachers.

Policy

At first he was a member of the party Machaneh Smol LeJisrael (Hebrew מחנה שמאל לישראל ), also known as Scheli (Hebrew של"י ), an acronym for Peace for Israel (Hebrew שלום לישראל, Shalom LeJisrael ). During the election in 1977 he was on the electoral list, although he acquired no seat in the Knesset, he arrived on 13 February 1981 in the Knesset when he replaced Helmut Ostermann in the elections in 1981, however, he lost his seat in the Knesset..

Later he was a member of the party of Meretz. In the 1992 election he stood on the electoral list and entered the Knesset.
