Walker Cup

The Walker Cup is the longest established team event in amateur golf. The trophy was named in 1922 after the businessman and president of the USGA George Herbert Walker ( grandfather of the future U.S. President George HW Bush or great-grandfather of U.S. President George W. Bush). The Walker Cup Match - this is the official name - is held every odd year in May between the best amateurs from the United Kingdom and Ireland, and the United States. The venue alternates between the two regions back and forth and also the format is the professional counterpart, the Ryder Cup, very similar.

In the overall standings the United States are with 34:8 wins in a draw, although clearly in front, the British- Irish choice but to decide five of the last 10 Matches for themselves.
