Walking Liberty Half Dollar

The Walking Liberty Half Dollar is an American silver coin to half a dollar or 50 cents, which was coined from 1916 to 1947. Named is designed by Adolph Alexander Weinman coin according to its subject, the border Goddess of Liberty Lady Liberty.

Description

The coin depicts on its face to the left border, wrapped in a long robe of Liberty goddess "Lady Liberty". She wears a Phrygian cap and is surrounded by the American flag. In her left hand she holds an oak and an olive branch, while the right arm is stretched forward. In the background a mountain with a rising sun can be seen. Above the inscription " LIBERTY " is (English: Freedom) and below the respective year of issue. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" (English: In God We Trust ) and until 1917 also the mintmark is positioned to the right, a D for Denver and S for San Francisco. If there is no mint mark present, the coin was minted in Philadelphia.

On the back of the facing to the left American national bird, a bald eagle is depicted. He stands on a rock with a cactus. Among the denomination "HALF DOLLAR • " is attached. The country name "UNITED STATES • • • oF • AMERICA " at the top and the second motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM • " (Latin: One of many ) on the left side. The mintmark can be found since 1917 to the left of the rock.
