Walkley Awards

The Walkley Award is conferred annually an Australian journalism prize. The winners will be chosen by an independent panel of journalists and photographers. The Walkley Award will be seen as the Australian equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize.

History

The award was launched in 1956 by Sir William Gaston Walkley, an Australian businessman. Initially consisting only of five categories Price was managed during the lifetime of Walkley personally. In 2000, the Walkley Foundation took over the presidency.
