Wall of Voodoo

Wall of Voodoo was a New Wave band from Los Angeles. You hit Mexican Radio is known from the year 1982.

Career

The band was formed by Stan Ridgway (vocals), Marc Moreland ( guitar), Bruce Moreland ( bass), Chas T. Gray ( keyboards) and Joe founded Nanini (drums) in Hollywood. After an EP, which bore the name of the band and contained a cover version of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire, the band released the album Dark Continent.

The bassist Bruce Moreland left the band and the remaining four members then took their best-known album Call of the West in containing Mexican Radio. Stan Ridgway left the band later also to start a solo career and was replaced by Andy Prieboy as a singer. The drummer Nanini replaced Ned Leukhardt, and Bruce Moreland returned to the group. With this lineup, the band created the Christmas classic Should not Have Given Him a Gun for Christmas. The album Seven Days in Town Sammy appeared in 1985, followed by Happy Planet 1987. Followed in 1988 yet the live album The Ugly Americans in Australia, in 1989, the band finally broke up.

Joe Nanini died on 4 December 2000 of a stroke, Marc Moreland on 13 March 2002 from kidney failure after liver transplantation.
