Wallace Collection (Band)

Wallace Collection called in 1968 a band from Belgium who is one of the first - successful and musically persuasive - able to integrate string instruments in a rock combo. The group consisted of two members of the Belgian National Orchestra, Raymond Vincent (violin ) and Jacques Hamotte (cello), jazz pianist Marc Herouet and more on the pop -oriented rhythm section with Christian Janssen ( bass), Freddy Nieuland (drums) and Sylveer van spars ( Guitar ).

Today, when many sounds rather harmless and to some extent a little eclecticism, it must be remembered that the band showed their true talents live on stage: Here the six musicians deployed in fact a very high speed and dynamics, such as a cover version by Lovely Rita the Beatles, who sought none.

Even that the group was taken at EMI artist, highlights their musical meaning: The song from the first album Daydream Laughing cavalier (recorded at Abbey Road Studios with advice from George Martin) the band managed a worldwide hit, which in twenty countries number one was. Other titles that have been very successful in various countries, were Dear beloved sekretary (1969 ), Fly me to the Earth ( 1969), Serenade (1970 ) and Stay ( 1971).

In the years 1970 and 1971 Wallace Collection conquered the stages of Europe and were subsequently successful in countries such as Mexico and Brazil, where they filled huge arenas. Another remarkable feature is that there was no one to receive the Wallace Collection foreign musicians: The six musicians covered the whole twenty instruments from. For critics, the band was one of the most interesting and innovative formations throughout Europe. The composition of film music complemented the oeuvre of the group.

1972 led creative blocks, the Tour stress and also the different musical ideas to the conclusion that it was better to end the successful experiment Wallace Collection.
