Wallace Lindsay

Wallace Martin Lindsay ( born February 12, 1858 in Pittenweem, † February 21, 1937 in St. Andrews ) was a Scottish classical scholar and Paläograf. From 1899 until his death he was Professor of Humanity at the University of St Andrews. His focus was on Latin Linguistics and metric, Latin comedy and satire as well as ancient glossaries.

Based on intensive studies in deciphering Lindsay was intensely occupied with the Latin linguistics. His most important works include the monographs The Latin Language ( Oxford 1894; German by Hans Nohl: The Latin language, Leipzig 1897), Syntax of Plautus (Oxford 1907), Ancient lore in medieval Latin glossaries (Oxford 1921) and Early Latin Verse ( Oxford 1922).
