Wallenstein (Band)

The band Wallenstein, established in Viersen in the Lower Rhine, later at home in Mönchengladbach, was a German rock group from 1971 to 1982, which one imputes also the so-called Krautrock of the 1970s.

Band History

Wallenstein was founded in 1971 under the martial name of Blitzkrieg by the ambitious Viersener art students ( Düsseldorf Art Academy ), Jürgen Dollase founded in the summer of the year, who was already trained in classical music on the piano and double bass and played in skiffle and jazz groups. At the foundation also of the merchant and band manager Peter Giehlen (Octopus Productions ) from Mönchengladbach - Hehnerholt and Dollases former Italian burly sidekick and road manager Corrado Faccioni were involved. Wallenstein was created as a kind of "test-tube baby ," said Dollase and Roadie Faccioni the original cast investigated but together with other bands. The first solo guitarist at that time, however, only be sampled group was the Erkelenzer Wolfgang " Ginger" Steinicke, today a well-known astronomer, but was the previous member of Smiddys Blues Band ( because his physics or astrophysics and mathematics studies had absolute priority for him ) quickly replaced by the American William (Bill) Joseph Barone from Philadelphia. Previously Jürgen Dollase had been able to win the native Hildesheimer Harald Grosskopf for himself, immediately after Bill Barone ( †) from Brunssum was also the Dutchman Gerrit ( Jerry ) Berker acquired.

Since the name Blitzkrieg was already used by an English band (wrongly but mostly written by the British music press Blitzkreig ), for the then German record label, but also had publicly provocative, the group identified from the beginning of 1972 after the Wallenstein in the Thirty Years' War. Also in early 1972 released their debut album of the Classical or Artrocker, which had already been recorded from September to December 1971 at the studio of Dieter Dierks in Stommeln at Cologne, and was the first band name only as LP title. In the same year published the German record label Mushroom with Mother Universe ( the cover photo taken by Harald Grosskopf shows Dollases grandma ) a " lightning fast " successor of the first work Blitzkrieg ( also from the label fungus).

After some changes of musical style Dollase exchanged in 1978 from all the band members. Through an appearance in the ZDF broadcast Disco with Ilja Richter in 1979 the group reached 17 with the single success Charline place in the German pop charts. But the single release Do not Let It Be ( from the album Blue Eyed Boys) was something relatively successful later and sold in large numbers. From March to June 1981 went Wallenstein the last time on tour; In 1982, the group broke then final.
