Wallgraben-Theater

The moat - theater in the town hall street in the center of Freiburg was founded in a former wine - and air-raid shelter in the back yard of Wall Street as a small basement theater ( Little Theatre on moat ) by a group of avid theater students.

At the first performance on June 16, 1953 A sleeping prisoner by Christopher Fry was played. In the late 1960s it moved to the basement of the Neues Rathaus town hall in the alley, still managed by Ingeborg Steiert († 1997) and the actor Heinz Meier († 2013), who was known in particular for his roles in Loriots skits. The theater has 96 seats and in 1975 the first theater, which brought Loriot skits on stage. In 2003, Meier's niece Regine Effinger the management of the theater. Since 2008, the actor Hans Poeschl is co-owner and head of the theater with his wife Regine Effinger. In 2007, 32 577 spectators attended the 311 performances of theater; in 2010 there were 27 661 spectators at 258 performances. During the summer months there is one staging for open-air performances in the courtyard of the New Town Hall.
