Walpernhain

Walpernhain is a municipality in the northeast of the Saale- wood country - circle ( Thuringia) near Eisenberg and part of the joint management Heathland Elstertal - Schkölen.

Adjacent communities are heathland in the Saale- Holzland and Osterfeld and Droyßig in the castle district.

Location

Walpernhain located east of Federal Highway 9 in an extensive farming area with changing floors.

History

Walpernhain was first mentioned in 1278 under the name Walpurgeshain, then in 1395 as Walpurgehayn and 1554 as Wallbornheen. The place is created as Waldhufendorf and has this structure today.

The district Walpernhain belonged to the Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, only the eastern outside the local situation two mills and the inn were in Prussia. At the request of the inhabitants of these three farms were incorporated after 1945.

Culture and sights

Approximately located in the center of the resort one of the oldest fortified churches of Thuringia. The oldest parts date from the 11th century.

Memorial

In the local cemetery reminds a tomb with a memorial stone to a named Soviet citizen deported to Germany in World War II and a victim of forced labor.
