Walsall F.C.

The Walsall FC ( officially: Walsall Football Club ) - also known as The Saddlers - is an English football club from Walsall. He plays since the beginning of the 2007/08 season back in the Football League One, the third highest English professional league.

History

The Walsall FC was founded in 1888 by a merger of the two local club Walsall Swifts and Wallsall Town, both in the second half of the 1870s, as Walsall Town Swifts founded. Since 1895 it got its present name. After several years in Non -League section of the club was admitted to the Football League in 1892, from which he had to retire again in 1895. A year later, however, managed to re-record in professional football. After the club in 1901 again was eliminated only with the formation of the Third Division North, managed to return to the Football League, which one belongs since then without interruption. Mostly the team played since this third and viertklassig. 1961 succeeded the first time for two years of promotion to the Second Division. Greatest success was reaching the semi-finals in the League Cup in 1984. Walsall that time had even defeated Arsenal in the fourth round 2-1. In the semifinals, she first reached a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, but lost the return leg 0-2. Liverpool won the League Cup finally against local rivals Everton. 25 years after the descent of the Club in 1988 came again for one year in the second division and a decade later played the Saddlers 1999/ 00 and 2001 to 2004, the longest time in the second highest class, now Football League First Division was called. At the time even the best visit the club's history was recorded on 11 February 2003 league game against Wolverhampton Wanderers with 11,037 spectators. 2006 Last Walsall in the Football League One, since 2004, the third- highest division, and dismounted in the Viertklassigkeit. There, however, Walsall won equal first place and rose again.
