Waltenheim

Waltenheim is a commune with 564 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the canton of Sierentz and the Local Government Association, Communauté de communes du Pays de Sierentz.

Geography

The municipality is located in Waltenheim Sundgau, halfway between the cities of Mulhouse ( Alsace ) and Basel. The highest point is 313 meters above sea level on the municipal border with Uffheim, while the center is situated at 285 meters above sea level.

Neighboring communities of Waltenheim are Geispitzen in the north, Sierentz in the east, Uffheim in the southeast and south, Magstatt -le- Bas in the southwest and Kœtzingue in the West.

History

The name goes back to a noble family in the 12th century. At that time - in 1135 - has mentioned this generation. Various members of the Waltenheim family went down in history, as evidenced by contemporary documents. At least existed in 1533 already the place called Walt 's home.
