Walter Afanasieff

Walter " Wally " Afanasieff ( born February 10, 1958 in São Paulo, Brazil) is an American music producer and songwriter. He started out as an arranger for Whitney Houston, worked during the early 1990s up to the producer and songwriter Mariah Carey or Celine Dion.

Walter Afanasieff was born in São Paulo ( Brazil). His family came from Russia in the late 1940s to Brazil. Anyway, he came to the U.S., is not documented.

Anyway, he posted there with the title song for the former James Bond film Licence to Kill, which he produced with his musical mentor Narada Michael Walden, his first major success. The title was sung by Gladys Knight. As his biggest hit can read the title song for the film Titanic, My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion, denote that he has however only produced.

He also wrote or produced, inter alia, for the following well-known artists: Jessica Simpson, Lionel Richie, Luther Vandross, Celine Dion, Savage Garden, Destiny 's Child, Kenny G, Michael Bolton, Kenny Loggins, Barbra Streisand, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Babyface, Lara Fabian, Michael Jackson, Yvonne Strahovski and Josh Groban.

Since Mariah Carey's debut album is her Walter Afanasieff as a producer to the side. The New York Times, he told once that he had spent most of his career as a musical tinkerer, songwriter and producer for Carey. But in 1997, Carey and Afanasieff loggerheads. However, Carey's 2001 released album Glitter contains an old song that dates back to the Butterfly session, which had in 1997 led to a falling out the two.

Afanasieff is known for its refined, always afflicted with a certain dramatic arrangements that build up slowly in the middle section to reach its dramatic climax and (often with gospel choirs ) to develop all their strength. A special trademark is his extremely round, bombastic sound that you can hear, for example, in songs like " My Heart Will Go On " or "Hero". Afanasieff works only with the " crème de la crème " of the American Studio elite, such as Michael Landau, Dann Huff (guitar), Nathan East ( bass), Mick Guzauski ( sound engineer ) or Greg Philiganes (piano), together. Many producers who are themselves already legends, appreciate his talent and work with him. These include, for example, David Foster (with Celine Dion / Barbra Streisand " Tell Him " ) or Babyface ( Christmas with Babyface )

Walter Afanasieff currently resides in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, along with his girlfriend Katie Cazorla and their three children Christina, Isabella and Andrei.
