Walter Beasley

Walter Beasley ( born May 24, 1961 in El Centro, California) is an American jazz saxophonist (alto, soprano), singer, composer and producer. He plays smooth jazz with rhythm and blues and funk influences.

Beasley grew up in El Centro, California and sang as a teenager in the Spanish-speaking bands. At first, he briefly played trumpet, but quickly changed to the saxophone at age nine ( his early influences heard Grover Washington). He attended the Berklee College of Music with a degree in 1984 and taught there soon. He is now a professor at Berklee.

Since his debut album Walter Beasley ( Polydor, 1987) he has presented own well- sold albums at regular intervals, at Mercury, Shanachie (Rendezvous 2002) and Heads Up. He often accompanied Rhythm & Blues singer.

He founded the label Affable Records and the publishing house of Affable Publishing.

In 2001 he was. Outstanding Jazz Musician at the Boston Music Awards and his album Go with the Flow was there awarded in 2003 for Best Jazz Album
