Walter Capps

Walter Holden Capps ( born May 5, 1934 in Omaha, Nebraska, † October 28, 1997 in Reston, Virginia ) was an American politician. In 1997, he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Walter Capps attended to 1958 Portland State University in Oregon and then to 1960 the Augustana Theological Seminary in Illinois. After a few more courses at various universities he taught 1964-1996 Theology at the University of California at Santa Barbara. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1996, Capps was in the 22nd electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Andrea Seastrand on 3 January 1997 and his mandate held until his death on 28 October of the same year. Capps succumbed to a heart attack he had suffered at the airport Washington Dulles International, in a hospital in Reston. His deputy's mandate was made after a special election to his widow Lois Capps.
