Walter Cunningham

Ronnie Walter " Walt " Cunningham ( born March 16, 1932 in Creston, Iowa, United States) is a former American astronaut. He flew as a second pilot with Apollo 7

Cunningham attended high school in Venice ( California). He joined in 1951 in the U.S. Navy and began his flight training in 1952. He completed more than 4,500 flight hours, including more than 3400 hours in jet aircraft.

1963 Cunningham went to the third group of astronauts for NASA. On October 11, 1968, he started with Apollo 7 for the first manned Apollo flight on top of a Saturn 1B rocket into orbit. Together with Walter Schirra and Donn Eisele, he tested the Apollo spacecraft in space conditions. On 22 October, was the safe landing in the Atlantic.

Cunningham is married for the second time and has two children from his first marriage. He is considered a sports enthusiast and shows special interest in tennis.
