Walter de Gruyter

The Walter de Gruyter GmbH ( De Gruyter ) is an academic publishing house, which publishes over 1,300 new titles annually, half of them in English. In addition, 650 journals and online databases are published. Since 2008, De Gruyter offers its content in electronic form on a publisher's own, integrated platform. De Gruyter is the third largest open access publisher.

History

The publishing house with headquarters in Berlin and branches in Boston ( until Spring 2011 New York City ) and Beijing ( since August 2011) was built by Walter de Gruyter ( 1862-1923 ), of the following publishers December 31, 1918 merger into a scientific Universal publishing merged:

In August 2006, Max Niemeyer Verlag ( Tübingen) and KG were taken Saur Verlag ( Munich) and merged with the existing program. The publisher based in Tübingen 2012. In 1977, De Gruyter acquired the linguistic Publisher Mouton Publishers. In April 2012, De Gruyter took over the Basel-based, specializing in Architecture Birkhauser Verlag. At the beginning of 2013 De Gruyter also took over the Akademie Verlag (Berlin) and the Oldenbourg Verlag ( Munich).

Among the most famous editions of the publisher include the critical edition Friedrich Nietzsche and the collected writings of Immanuel Kant Since 1998, Ferdinand Tönnies total output appears. In the journals, the Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics counts ( Crelle 's Journal ) the world's most important of its discipline. Some not only the scientific audience -known works are the Pschyrembel - Clinical Medical dictionary and the Kluge - Etymological dictionary of the German language.
