Walter E. Dellinger III

Walter Estes Dellinger III ( born May 15, 1941 in Charlotte, North Carolina) is an American lawyer and former United States Solicitor General.

Biography

After attending high school, he studied from 1959 to 1963 Political Science at the University of North Carolina where she earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA Political Science ). A subsequent post-graduate studies in law at the Law School of Yale University, he finished in 1966 with the degree of Juris Doctor ( JD).

After that he worked as a professor of law at the University of Mississippi 1966-1968. After a year as a clerk ( Clerk ) by Hugo Black, an associate judge (Associate Justice ), U.S. Supreme Court, he took in 1969 a reputation as a professor of law at Duke University in Durham and taught there initially until 1993. Meantime he was from 1980 to 1981, special assistant to the FBI Director William Hedgcock Webster.

In 1993 he was an employee in the Ministry of Justice of the United States. Until 1994, he was assistant to the U.S. Attorney General ( Assistant Attorney General ) and as such head of the office for legal advice (Office of Legal Counsel ). In August 1996, Walter Dellinger of U.S. President Bill Clinton as Acting Solicitor General ( Acting Solicitor General ) appointed and took until August 1997 so that the third position within the Ministry of Justice.

In 1997 he returned as a professor back at Duke University and is also after his admission to the bar in the District of Columbia as a lawyer at O'Melveny & Myers operates a law firm with 1,000 lawyers and is based in Los Angeles. As such, he represented the defendant in the District of Columbia v. Heller procedure before the Supreme Court of the United States. It was about a landmark decision in which it was found that the second Amendment, the right of every citizen to own a gun for private purposes to protect. He also represented Martha Stewart in criminal proceedings, as well as Victoria 's Secret in an action for infringement of the trademark.

Dellinger was also a member of the advisory bodies of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy and the National Legal Center for the Public Interest and Special Advisor to the Board of the New York Stock Exchange.
