Walter Fritzsch

Walter Fritzsch ( born November 21, 1920 in Planitz, † October 15, 1997 in Dresden) was a football coach in the GDR.

Life

Fritzsch began in 1927 his career as a football player at Planitzer SC. In 1940 he moved to VfL Leisnig and played there until 1943. More Stations 1943-1947 were the BC Hartha, the sports association chub and Zwickau- top mockery village. His last sports community was the BSG bismuth Cainsdorf near Zwickau, where he played until 1950.

Due to a back injury ended his career as a football player Fritzsch and began in 1950 at second division bismuth Aue to work as a coach. He led the team in its first year to the rise in the DDR - Oberliga and the first league year on a secure 7th place. He then moved for a season for local and league rivals Empor Lauter and took over the 1953 Oberliga Motor Dessau. With the Dessauers Fritzsch rose from 1954 in the second-rate DDR -Liga, where he stayed another year worked. With the start of the season in 1956, he took over the league team of the newly formed SC Motor Karl- Marx-Stadt. Even with this team Fritzsch dismounted after two years of activity in 1957 and 1958 had to train the third division BSG Stahl Riesa. In 1959, he began a seven- year-old coach working for the Oberliga SC Empor Rostock. The Baltic townspeople he led between 1962 and 1964 three times the runner-up and 1960 in the final of the East German soccer cup ( 2:3 against motor Jena). When the SC Empor 1965 only reached the 5th place in the league, the club Fritzsch, who went back to the BSG Stahl Riesa then, who played in the DDR -Liga now separated. On June 30, 1969 Walter Fritzsch went, who had still not coaching diploma to Dresden, and thus began the most successful period in the history of Dynamo Dresden. In his nine-year tenure, the Yellow-Blacks won five league titles and two DDR GDR Cup victories and played 42 European games. Other successes of the small and strict trainer were the development of 15 internationals during his tenure and the discovery of how Ulf Kirsten and Matthias Sammer talents.

At the end of the season 1977/78 57 -year-old Fritzsch was formally proclaimed by Dynamo Dresden. He then worked until 1989 for the Football Association of the GDR and was responsible for the youth level and training of the youth coach. The connection to Dynamo Dresden remained but preserved, where his expertise was still in demand, even when the team arrived in the 1st Bundesliga. Overall, in 1900 playing Walter Fritzsch worked as a trainer and was able to post 1163 wins.

On 15 October 1997 Walter Fritzsch died of complications from Alzheimer 's disease in Dresden. The burial took place in the circle of close friends, companions and former players on the Dresdner Heide cemetery. A memorial stone in the Rudolf- Harbig Stadium and held annually Walter Fritzsch Memorial Tournament remember an outstanding trainer personality.

Filming

In 2008 the film was The Little General in theaters and later on DVD. The documentary feature-length films by Uwe map depicts the coaching career of Walter Fritzsch, particularly his successful years in Dresden. The TIME called the film " a wonderful DDR statement film".
