Walter H. Pehle

Walter H. Pehle ( born February 8, 1941 in Dusseldorf ) is a German publishing editor and historian. From 1988 he was until his resignation from the publisher in 2011, editor of the book series The Time of National Socialism.

Life and work

Pehle began to study after training and military service in 1967. In 1975 he received his doctorate at the University of Dusseldorf in Wolfgang J. Mommsen on the National Socialist seizure of power in the district of Aachen. The following year, he joined the Frankfurt S. Fischer publishing house as an editor. First he took care of the Subjects Education and Psychology, from 1978 the area time and cultural history. With a restructuring of the publishing program, the publisher Monika Schoeller Pehle entrusted with the publication of the book series The Time of National Socialism. This series, because of their cover design known as The Black Series, became the world's largest of its kind and " acts as a powerful locking bar against forgetting and repression. In addition Pehle developed together with the editor Wolfgang Benz and Rebekah Habermas, the concept of international book series " European History ", in which 36 volumes have been published since 1996.

He was appointed Honorary Professor at the University of Innsbruck in 1993.
