Walter Hilgers

Walter Hilgers ( born 1959 in Stolberg ) is a German tuba player and conductor.

Life

Walter Hilgers grew up in Stolberg on with three siblings, to which the trumpeter Heinz Hilgers, the clarinetist and saxophonist Peter Hilgers, and the drummer Ernst- Wilhelm belong. His father was a conductor.

Walter Hilgers has been internationally successful not only as a tuba player in internationally renowned orchestras, but also as a soloist.

In addition, Walter Hilgers is dedicated to conducting. In 1995 he founded the ensemble " tritone Wimares ", which is composed of soloists of the Staatskapelle Weimar. In Germany, he led the Chamber Ensemble of the Bavarian State Orchestra and the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg.

Back in 1978, Walter Hilgers began teaching and taught since then at the music schools Dusseldorf, Aachen and Lübeck as well as from 1989 to 1995 as a professor of tuba and chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Hamburg. In 1995 he was appointed professor for tuba and chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik " ​​Franz Liszt" Weimar.

In April 1996, he served a tour in Germany of the International Youth Orchestra Academy, 1998/99 he was the Artistic Director of Youth Symphony Orchestra Hannover. Since the summer of 2000, he serves the Young German Brass Soloists. From 1979 to 2007 he was a member of the German Brass ensemble German Brass.

Since summer 2005, Prof. Walter Hilgers is next to Paul Halwax guest tuba with the Vienna Philharmonic. Several CDs of him have appeared at the Leipzig classical label Genuin.
