Walter James Fitzgerald

Walter James Fitzgerald SJ ( born November 17, 1883 in Peola, Washington, † July 19, 1947 ) was Vicar Apostolic of Alaska.

Life

Walter James Fitzgerald joined the Jesuit order, and received on 16 May 1918, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Pope Pius XI. appointed him on 14 December 1938 Coadjutor Vicar Apostolic of Alaska and titular bishop of Tymbrias. The Vicar Apostolic of Alaska, Joseph Crimont, donated to him on 24 February of the following year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Spokane, Charles Daniel White, and the Bishop of Sacramento, Robert John Armstrong.

With the death of Joseph Raphael John Crimont on May 20, 1945, he followed them as Vicar Apostolic of Alaska.
