Walter Kollo

Walter Kollo Elimar (actually Walter Elimar Kollodzieyski; born January 28, 1878 in Neidenburg, East Prussia, † September 30, 1940 in Berlin) was a German composer. He wrote mainly operettas and other pieces of light entertainment.

Life

The merchant's son was originally supposed to take the father's occupation, but then could devote himself with the help of his mother in the conservatories Special Hausen and Königsberg studying music and came to a brief period as theater conductor in Königsberg in 1899 to Berlin. Here Kollo turned to entertainment to music, wrote since 1908, works for the theater and popular music had in 1910 with the composed together with Willy Bredschneider Posse Large raisins his first major success. Later he undertook successful concert tours as a conductor of his own works. Kollo is considered alongside Jean Gilbert and Paul Lincke as the founder of the Berlin operetta.

Kollo is the father of the composer and librettist Willi Kollo and grandfather of the opera singer René Kollo.

The grave of honor of Walter Kollo is located in Berlin in Berlin-Mitte district on the Sophie II cemetery, near the cemetery entrance on the field road. A memorial stone there on his most famous evergreens. On 30 September 2010 ( 70th anniversary of the death of Walter Kollo ) was at the Berlin Admiralpalast a plaque for Walter and Willi Kollo revealed that refers inter alia to working with Herman Haller Haller at the revues 1923-1928.
