Walter Laird

Walter Laird (* July 26, 1920, † May 30, 2002 London ) was a British dancer and triple world champion in Latin American dances. His 1961 book, The Technique of Latin American Dancing is in the current edition of the basis of international competition rules of the Latin dances in dance sport and is used for the training of dance teachers and coaches.

Achievements

Walter Laird began his career as a professional dancer in 1946. 1962 he won with his dance partner Lorraine Rohdin the world title of the professionals of the Latin American dances Professional Latin World Champion and defending these three years. In his five-year career as a dancer with Lorraine, he remained undefeated.

Later he formed as a dance teacher from some of the world's best couples.

The " Laird Technique"

Already during his active career as a ballroom dancer, Walter Laird sat apart on a scientific level with the Latin American dances. He developed his own technique, which he described in his published in 1961 and 1964 revised book The Technique of Latin American Dancing. Developed by Laird dance style continued worldwide tournaments by and is accordingly called the International Style.

Over the years, technical developments and new characters in the competitive dance sport, Laird 1972, 1977, 1983 and 1988 took up in further editions of his art book revealed. In 1997, a Supplement ( Supplement) appeared with additional figures.

Before Laird was able to complete the sixth edition of his Latin Technique, he died in May 2002 The book was subsequently completed by his surviving wife Julie Laird and published in 2003 as The Laird Technique of Latin Dancing -. The Commemorative Edition. In the years 2006 and 2009 was followed by revised versions, but do not contain any technical changes.

Worldwide serve the current edition of the Laird Technique and the associated supplements as the basis for the training of dance teachers, coaches and adjudicators in the Latin American dances.
