Walter Steinegger

Walter Stein Egger ( born November 5, 1928 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian ski jumper.

Steinegger belonged to the Austrian squad for the Olympic Winter Games 1952 in Oslo, and jumped on the normal hill on the 14th Place. From 1953 Steinegger jumped at the Four Hills Tournament. In his first competition in Garmisch -Partenkirchen January 1, 1953, he was able to jump in 9th place in the top ten. In the end, he finished in 8th place in the overall standings of the Four Hills Tournament 1953. His most successful tours, he played 1956-1958. Having already finished the Four Hills Tournament 1956/57, on the 5th place in the standings, he could this success a year later repeat. In addition, he could jump with the 3rd place in Oberstdorf, the first and only time in his career on the podium on December 29, 1957. On January 1, 1958, he missed in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, this place just barely and came fourth. The Four Hills Tournament 1958/59 he finished outside the scoring ranks. However, a year later, he was able to jump again on the 8th place in the tour - overall in the Four Hills Tournament 1959/60. Due to this success, he was at the Olympic Winter Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley again in the squad of the Austrians. He took on the normal hill on the 16th Place. In the following years Steinegger took several more times unsuccessfully at the Four Hills Tournament in part, before he ended his ski jumping career after the Four Hills Tournament 1962/63.
