Walter Stewart Owen

Walter Stewart Owen, OC, QC ( born January 26, 1904 in Atlin, British Columbia, † January 13, 1981 in Vancouver ) was a Canadian lawyer and manager. From 1973 to 1978 he was Vice- Governor of the Province of British Columbia.

Biography

The son of a policeman was in 1924 the first chairman of the Youth Parliament of British Columbia. Owen studied law at the University of British Columbia, was in 1928 admitted to the bar and opened a law firm in Vancouver. In 1933 he was appointed Attorney-General of Canada at that time youngest. In 1942 he left the civil service again and built his company Owen Bird on one of the most prestigious law firms for corporate law. In 1958, he chaired the Canadian Bar Association, the Association of Canadian Bar Associations.

1956 acquired Owen together with his business partner Frank Griffiths, the radio station CKNW in New Westminster and was co-founder of Western International Communications Ltd.. Governor General Roland Michener sworn him on 19 March 1973 as Vice- Governor of British Columbia. This representative office practiced Owen out until May 18, 1978. His son Philip Owen was from 1993 to 2002 mayor of Vancouver.
