Walter Werginz

Walter Werginz ( born February 18, 1913 † unknown) was an Austrian football player. The striker won the Austrian amateur team at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 the silver medal.

Career

Walter Werginz played at the Klagenfurt AC in the Carinthian league. The League was then aligned on amateur basis and was not related to the professional Austrian championship in connection, limited at that time only on the Wiener space. With the Klagenfurten, who eventually stood mostly in the shadow of local rivals SK Austria Klagenfurt. From coach Jimmy Hogan, he was still taken in 1936 as the sole representative of Carinthia to the Olympic Games in Berlin, even though he also had until then had not played a game for the Austrian amateur national. Walter Werginz occurred in all four games of Austria in Berlin used, also met in the quarterfinals against Peru, and in the semifinal against Poland. However, in the Olympic finals he defeated the Italian team with 1:2 after extra time. After the tournament moved to the Styrian Werginz first division DSV Donawitz.

Werginz applies since March 22, 1944 at Suchowola southeast of Brody in Russia as missing.
