Wan Waithayakon

Prince Wan Waithayakon of Thailand ( Thai: พระเจ้า วร วงศ์ เธอ พระองค์เจ้า วรรณ ไว ท ยาก ร กรม หมื่น นราธิป พงศ์ ประพันธ์; born August 25, 1891 in Bangkok; † 5 September 1976) was elected President of the 11th UN General Assembly and constant representative of his country at the United Nations.

Life

He graduated at Oxford and at the École libre des sciences politiques in Paris. He has received several academic degrees and awards. He is considered the founding father of philological criticism in Thailand.

He began his professional career in 1917 as the third Secretary. In 1920 he returned to Bangkok back to the Foreign Ministry, in 1922, he was appointed advisor to King Vajiravudh (Rama VI ). Appointed. In 1924 he was elevated to the rank of Under - Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was responsible for several important negotiations on issues of political and economic relations with Western states.

In 1926 he was again sent as minister to Europe and has been accredited for the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium. During this time he was appointed head of the Thai delegation to the League of Nations, where he worked as President, Vice - President and a member of several important committees. In 1930 he returned to Thailand and was the holder of a chair at the Chulalongkorn University.

In the following decades he represented his country again in a number of diplomatic missions: In 1943, he was with some important milestones in the negotiations with Japan while he was part of the so-called SEATO Council and the Bandung Conference, where he was elected Rapporteur. In addition, he led the negotiations for the inclusion of Thailand in the UN. In 1947, Prince Wan Waithayakon his country's ambassador in the U.S. and at the same time at the United Nations.

Prince Wan as a philologist and his word embossing work

Prince Wan coined many words and put to a method of writing down. This method and its principles for word embossing work are still the basis for the official word embossed work of the Royal Institute of Thailand.
