Wan Yai District

Amphoe Wan Yai ( Thai อำเภอ หว้า น ใหญ่ ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the northeastern province of Mukdahan. The Mukdahan province lies in the western part of the Northeast region of Thailand, the so-called Isaan.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise ) Mueang Mukdahan Mukdahan Province and That Phanom Nakhon Phanom province. To the east, on the opposite bank of the Mekong, Savannakhet Province of Laos is located.

The main river of the district is the border river Mekong.

History

Wan Yai was born on September 16, 1977 initially as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) was established by the Tambon Wan Yai, Pong Kham and Bang Sai Noi Amphoe Mueang Mukdahan were separated from. When in 1982 the new Mukdahan Province was created, Wan Yai was one of six counties that make up the new province was originally. On 9 May 1992 Wan Yai has been promoted to Amphoe.

Management

Amphoe Wan Yai is divided into five subdistricts (tambon ), which continued in 44 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

There are also four " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
