The creek rises about 1 km south-southwest of Rhodes, the nucleus of Diemelstadt. Its source lies about 900 meters north of the manor Georgenhof and north of the wooded Light (331 m above sea level. NN ) in agriculturally used area to approximately 305 m above sea level. NN.

Initially, the walls flows a few hundred meters to the east and then südsüdostwärts by a fringed by forest valley in which it crosses under the highway 252, according to Schmillinghausen, a northern district of Bad Arolsen. Directly after flowing through the village opens a the flowing from the west Black Puhle. Then the walls runs eastward through agricultural area where they a few hundred meters south of Volkmar Sener district Herbsen flows over and the deserted village Mederich with the Postal Mederike happened along Route 3081.

Finally, the migration flows almost 5 river kilometers east of Herbsen to about 176 m above sea level. NN in the Diemel inflow Twiste.

Catchment and inflows

Among the tributaries of the walls, whose catchment area covers 35.361 km ² belong with length and mouth position ( downstream considered ):

• Black Puhle 4 km ( 11.393 km ²) - right hand just below Schmillinghausen
• Wilpe (9,8 km, 8.189 km ²) - on the right side just before the confluence with the Twiste, near Volkmarsen
