Wanderlust

Wanderlust was already a medium high German word and describes the joy of hiking, the constant inner drive to open up walking the nature and the world away from home.

In modern German the term was strongly influenced by the romance: " walking, yes walking is my pleasure" - as in the student hiking songs by Joseph von Eichendorff and later by Joseph Victor von Scheffel. In the hiking clubs of the 19th century and in the migrant bird after 1900 it became institutionalized and through songs and literature of the youth movement so popular that it has been adopted as the Germanism in English and detected there since about 1902. Available in other languages ​​such as Italian, Danish or Irish Wanderlust was taken as a term for wanderlust.
