Wang Yuanji

Empress Dowager Wáng Yuanji (Chinese王 元 姬; * 217, † 268), formally Empress Wenming (Chinese文明 皇后, civilized and understanding empress " ) was an empress dowager of the Jin Dynasty. She was the wife of Sima Zhao and mother of the first Jin emperor Wu ( Sima Yan).

Wang Yuanjis father was the Wei general Wang Su (Chinese王肃), a Confucian Scholar. His daughter was known in her youth for her childlike loyalty and devotion. When she married Sima Zhao is not known, but she bore him five sons and a daughter. According to traditional historiography, it was she who warned Sima Zhao before the rebellion of General Zhong Hui.

After Sima Zhao's death in 265 Sima Yan inherited his position as regent. Soon he forced the Wei Emperor Cao Huan to abdicate in his favor, and established as Emperor Wu of Jin Jin Dynasty. His mother Wang Yuanji he rose to the Empress Dowager. Wang Yuanji remained true to its essence and held modestly out of politics. She died in 268 and was buried with the honors befitting an empress, with her ​​husband Sima Zhao.
