Wangchuk Namgyal

Wangchuk Tenzing Namgyal ( born April 1, 1953 in Gangtok ) is the second son of Palden Thondup Namgyal, the last sovereign king of Sikkim.

Namgyal was educated in England and topped 1982 for the 13th Chogyal of Sikkim. Originally his older brother Crown Prince Tenzing Namgyal was provided for the throne, but this died in a traffic accident. Since the connection of Sikkim to India in 1975 Chogyal of Sikkim is only pretender to the throne; its influence is limited to religious matters.

Not to be confused with the King Wangchuk Namgyal of the neighboring country Bhutan, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.
