Wansdyke (earthwork)
The Wansdyke is a historic defensive wall in the west of England. It extends from the area of Bristol in an easterly direction up to Wiltshire.
The Wansdyke is divided into three parts, which are 14, 22 and 19 km long. It consists of a rampart and a ditch.
The complex is dated to the post-Roman period in the fifth or sixth century. One assumes a defensive line of the Celts, which should protect them to the north against the coming out of the upper valley of the River Thames Saxons.
