The Wapsipinicon River ( locally known as Wapsi ) is a 480 km long right tributary of the Mississippi River in the U.S. states of Minnesota and Iowa.

The source is located in Mower County in southeastern Minnesota and reaches the north of Mitchell County, the territory of Iowa. There the Wapsipinicon River flows in a southeasterly direction predominantly agricultural area in Howard, Chickasaw, Bremer, Black Hawk and Buchanan County. There he runs through the administrative center of Independence. In the further course of the river flows through the northeast of Cedar Rapids Linn and reached the Jones County with the administrative center of Anamosa. After the Cedar County was striped in the extreme northeast, the Wapsipinicon River reaches the Clinton County, where the course turns all the way to the south. After approximately 20 km, the course turns into a predominantly easterly direction. The river forms from this point to the mouth of the boundary between the Clinton and Scott County. The mouth of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Illinois, about 15 km away is located below the city Clinton.

The Wapsipinicon River forms the western boundary of the Driftless Area, a glacially shaped plateau that extends across the southeastern Minnesota, southwestern Wisconsin, northeastern Iowa and extreme northwestern Illinois.

The river's name is derived from the Ojibwe language the word Waabizipinikaan - ziibi, meaning roughly translates river, which is rich in Arrowhead. Thus, the extensive occurrence of this plant were meant on the banks of the river.
