War Child is the seventh studio album and also the eighth work of the progressive rock band Jethro Tull. It was released in October 1974. It reached # 14 in the UK and # 2 in the United States.

Album

Most of the songs on the album were written during the second half of the Passion Play tour. However, even earlier recordings are on the album, because War Child was written before A Passion Play and Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day, Bungle in the Jungle and Only Solitaire are pieces of the so-called Château D' isaster tapes.

The album was planned as music for a film project, but the idea was not implemented.

The front part of the record sleeve shows Ian Anderson in shades of blue and white with a Aquila, which bears the name of band and album, held in front of the purple - orange shades of a nocturnal image, modern city. The back features the band members and 14 other people that are related to the songs on the album, including in the center a small girl holding a machine gun, a skater, four young women in hot pants, a nun, two rugby players and a woman who is dressed as Queen Elizabeth I and a man beats a Knight, and a sea lion at the ball dressage. Anderson also holds the Aquila, but stands in the background. The additional people are, inter alia, Anderson's future wife Shona and other family members and friends of the musicians.

In addition to the five musicians of Jethro Tull are members of the orchestra as Philamusica in London to hear, conducted by David Palmer.
