War Merit Cross (Brunswick)

The War Merit Cross was instituted on October 23, 1914 by Duke Ernst August of Brunswick for combatants and on 17 November 1915 non-combatants. Still took place on March 20, 1918, the Foundation of the First Class and of the probation badge.

The award could be awarded to individuals regardless of their rank or level for services in the war.

The religious character has the shape of a paw Cross and is made of bronze. It shows on the front center, the initials of the founder EA (Ernst August) and in the cross arms above the ducal crown, below the year 1914 and in the left and right arm of the cross, two oak leaves.

Was driven first class as a plug cross on the left chest. The second class on a dark blue ribbon with sulfur- yellow side stripes ( sulfur yellow with dark blue side stripes for non-combatants ) on the left chest. The probation badge as a plaque on the band of the Second Class.
