War is the third studio album released in 1983 by the Irish band U2. Producer of the album is Steve Lillywhite. It is the first album of the band, which had a strong political background.

In 1989 the board was chosen by Rolling Stone magazine ranked 40 of the 100 best albums of the 80s. Later it also came in its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time on the 223 square.

The album was U2's first number - one album in the UK and there overtook Michael Jackson's Thriller album.

The boy on the cover of the album is Peter Rowan ( brother of Bono's friend Guggi ). He also appeared on the covers of U2 albums Boy, Three, The Best of 1980-1990, and Early Demos.
