Ward Pinkett

Ward Pinkett ( born April 29, 1906 in Newport News, Virginia; † March 15, 1937 in New York City ) was an American jazz trumpeter.

Pinkett was the son of an amateur cornet player and play with ten years of trumpet. He he was a member of the school band of the Hampton Institute and later studied at New Haven Conservatory of Music. His musical career began at the White Brothers Orchestra in Washington DC; then he moved to New York City. There he played in the bands of Charlie Johnson, Willie Gant, Billy Fowler, Henri Saparo, Joe Steele and Charlie Skeete. Jelly Roll Morton took him 1928-1930 of shots; heard are solos by him on Strokin 'Away and Low Gravy (recorded on July 14, 1930). He also worked in the early 1930s with Chick Webb, Bingie Madison, Rex Stewart ( 1933) and Teddy Hill; 1935 Albert Nicholas and Bernard Addison Adrian Rollinis Tap Room and short in Louis Metcalf's Big Band.
