, Occasionally called Warden Abbey also Wardon Abbey is a former Cistercian abbey approximately 11 km southeast of Bedford in Bedfordshire in England near the road from Cardington to Old Warden.

History

The monastery was founded by Walter Espec, who had also founded Rievaulx, on his lands at Old Warden on December 8, 1136 and was the second daughter house of Rievaulx Abbey from the filiation of Clairvaux Abbey Primary. The first abbot was Waltheof, stepson of King David I of Scotland, who later became Abbot of Melrose Abbey was. In addition to the three daughter monasteries Sawtra, Sibton and Tilty Abbey, built to 1190 twelve Gran Gien. Warden was a relatively prosperous monastery. At the beginning of the 14th century, a mosaic floor was laid. Following its dissolution, it had 15 monks and had an annual income of 389 pounds. After recovery in 1537, the monastery fell to the family Gostwick, who built a mansion beside him. The monastery was completely canceled. Around 1839 and 1960 excavations took place that promoted the foundations of the choir and the Ostkorridors the cloister to light. In the area of the former abbey is now run by the owner family Whitbread viticulture.
