Warkalania

Warkalania carina minor is an extinct turtle Meiolaniidae family. She lived in the Oligocene and early Miocene in Australia. Its closest relatives are Meiolania, Ninjemys, Niolamia and Crossochelys.

Description

Warkalania was well protected as any other members of their family, because the head and the tail there were thorn-like appendages. In this turtle but these were rather shorter and smaller. Still, she could not move her head because of the horns and spikes. With a body length of about one meter Warkalania was one of the smaller members of their family.

Way of life

Warkalania was a harmless herbivores and plucked with a toothless beak, grasses and leaves from. Maybe they grazed as the Galapagos giant tortoise in loose, non-contiguous groups.

Like all turtles lay eggs probably Warkalania. Nevertheless, so far no eggs were found from this turtle.

Etymology

The specific epithet is from the two Latin words ' carina ' and ' minor' and therefore means ' Little Horn '.
