Warren Barker

Warren Barker ( born April 16, 1923 in Oakland, California; † August 3, 2006 in Greenville, South Carolina) was an American composer.

Life

The first lessons in music Barker received from his father, a church organist and composer of sacred works. Warren Barker graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles and completed it by private Composition studies with Mario Castelnuovo- Tedesco and Henri Pensis.

After Barker was initially bandleader and arranger in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he worked in the 1940s in broadcasting as an arranger for composer and conductor Carmen Dragon. His popularity grew significantly and over the next 25 years he developed into an important composer for Hollywood and for television. At 32 television series and many other feature films, he wrote the music. Furthermore, he had signed a contract as an arranger and conductor with the Warner Brothers Record Company, which put him in a position to record a whole series of his own compositions. One of these recordings, in which he used very exotic and 'primitive' instruments and brought him much success, was also triggered a new collaboration with the television producer Harry Akkerman. In 1971 he retired from show business and put his attention to educational music.
