Warren Ellis

Warren Ellis ( born February 16, 1968) is an English author of numerous comics, books and screenplays. In addition, Ellis is a very active online personality. He lives in Southend -on-Sea in England.

Career

Ellis began writing in 1990 and the British Deadline magazine published a six -page story. He also wrote a one-page Doctor Who comic and a Judge Dredd short story. Ellis ' first ongoing series, Lazarus Churchyard with artist D' Israeli was published in the magazine Blast!. 1994 Ellis started at Marvel and took over the series Hellstorm, he was writing to them with Issue 21 set. He also worked with at Marvel in 2099 and Thor.

In addition to his work for Marvel Comics, he also wrote for DC, Caliber and Image, where he mainly worked for the Wildstorm studio. Besides DV8 he took over the series Storm Watch, which he of # 37 - supervised 50 together with artist Tom Raney. Stormwatch was then rebooted and ran 11 issues long with Ellis and artist Bryan Hitch at the helm. After that was launched from the remains of Storm Watch The Authority, a series about a superhero team that went against threats and in the American comic book market has a trend towards action- oriented series unleashed, whose plot structure was inspired by Hollywood blockbusters.

1997 Ellis started the series Transmetropolitan, whose rights he retained, together with the artist Darick Robertson for himself and not, as is usual in the great American comic publishers, gave to the publisher. The series was about a gonzo journalist named Spider Jerusalem ( modeled after Hunter S. Thompson), who is fighting for the removal of a fascist U.S. president in a futuristic America. It was mostly published by DC Vertigo daughter and was about 60 issues into one of the most successful DC series without superheroes.

1999 Ellis began with artist John Cassaday at Wildstorm with the series Planetary, took up the popular superhero and pulp clichés and presented in an unusual way. He also had a brief appearance in Vertigo's Hellblazer, but he ended prematurely after DC, refused shortly after the Columbine high school rampage to publish a previously written story called Shoot which dealt with a similar issue.

In 2003, at Wildstorm the 12-part series Global Frequency, from the well nearly a television series would be developed, which was discontinued after the pilot. Warren Ellis describes a hidden operating non-governmental organization based on a smart Mob.Inzwischen has become accessible to the pilot via the Internet to a large fan base. 2004 Ellis returned with a two-year contract to Marvel and thus to mainstream superhero comics. He took over Iron Man and Ultimate Fantastic Four.

Infamous Warren Ellis is sure to roll up the superhero genre with joy somewhere between parody and modernization. His Wildstorm creations are now even called Ellis universe. It is striking that he again and again satirizes familiar characters from the universes of Marvel and DC or presented as an alternative equivalents.

Example: Both in Stormwatch and Planetary he offered each a figure that was strongly reminiscent of Superman and in the former case, the opponent of the protagonists. The " bad guys " in Planetary are modeled in a similar style to Marvel's Fantastic Four and The Authority, there is a counterpart to the Avengers ( Avengers ) (although Ellis had already been adopted at this time of the series), while two of the main characters of the series, a parody of Superman and Batman are ( as a gay couple ). Still, the whole thing is never a pure parody, but has its own, serious storyline original ideas.

Since 2006, Ellis also shows responsible for the Next Wave Marvel series, which he self-confessed " in its distilled form of superhero comic book " is understood as, " pose for no good reason in the streets " in the disguised hero. And even if NextWave is less gloomy than his Wildstorm work, the above-mentioned motifs are also found here again that Ellis puts one hand on both new and existing, already established in the Marvel Universe figures, on the other hand also motifs and characters from Marvel in parodies of it umändert.

Ellis 's first novel God Bless America ( Crooked Little Vein ) was published in July 2007 in the U.S. and two years later in a German translation in Heyne.
