Warren M. Anderson

Warren Mattice Anderson ( born October 16, 1915 in Bainbridge, Chenango County, New York, † 1 June 2007 in Johnson City, Broome County, New York) was an American soldier, lawyer and politician ( Republican). He was Presbyterian. Then he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega, the American Legion and the Sons of the American Revolution.

Career

Warren Mattice Anderson served during World War II in the U.S. Army.

He was 1953-1988 Member of the Senate of New York. There, he represented from 1953 to 1954 the 45th District, 1955-1965 47th District, 1966 the 55th district, from 1967 to 1982 the 47th district and finally from 1983 to 1988 the 51st district. Anderson had 1966-1972 to preside over the Senate Finance Committee. He took in the years 1972, 1976 and 1980 as a delegate to the Republican National Conventions in part. Following the resignation of Earl Brydges from his post as Majority Leader he followed him into the office. He worked in 1975 along with Governor Hugh Carey and the Speaker of the Assembly Stanley earthenware in a program package in order to save New York City against a bankruptcy.

In his capacity as Temporary President of the Senate of New York Anderson held the position as Acting Lieutenant Governor twice. Anderson held the post for the first time from 1973 to December 1974 and the second time from February 1985 to December 1986. Knocked Up Governor Nelson Rockefeller resigned from his office, so that followed the Lieutenant Governor Malcolm Wilson into office. The second time, Lieutenant-Governor Alfred DelBello resigned from his post.

In addition, Anderson was a candidate in 1978 for the Republican nomination for the office of governor of New York, but was defeated by Perry Duryea.

Anderson came back in 1988 with the law firm of Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP, Binghamton (New York) at. In May 2006, he announced his support of John Faso, former Minority Leader of the Assembly, at the Republican nomination for the office of governor of New York.

Anderson died in 2007 in Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City (New York).

Honors

Interstate 88, which runs from Southern Tier to county seat, was named after him.

Warren Mattice Anderson was the son of Edna ( Mattice ) Anderson and Floyd E. Anderson. He married on June 28, 1941 Eleanor C. Sanford ( † 1996).
