Warsy

Warsy is a commune with 123 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. It belongs to the district Montdidier, in the canton of Montdidier and the Communauté de communes du Kommunalverband canton de Montdidier.

Geography

Warsy is located on the Avre, 95 km north-east of Paris, about 30 kilometers southeast of Amiens, 28 kilometers north-west of Noyon and about 9 kilometers north-east of the canton and arrondissement municipal seat Montdidier, between the neighboring communities Guerbigny in the Northeast and Becquigny in the southwest.

History

From the 12th to the 14th century Warsy fief was a family called Tournelle, during the 16th century it belonged to a family called Chambly. Through marriage it passed in 1638 into the possession of Jacques de Rune, Baron of Fouquesolles. It remained until the French Revolution (1789-1799) in his family. In Spanish - French War (1635-1659), which was a result of the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648), parts of the town were destroyed.

1793 received Warsy as Warcy in the wake of the French Revolution the status of a municipality and 1801 (under the present name ) the right to local self-government. Until the construction of the church of Sainte -Marie -Madeleine in the 19th century, Warsy was part of the parish Guerbigny.

During the Second World War (1939-1945) Warsy was occupied by German troops, and in 1944 by Forces Françaises Libres ( Free French Forces ) exempt.

Attractions

The castle was built around 1725 by Warsy on behalf of Marquis Jacques- Antoine de Rune. It was also after the French Revolution until 1968 owned by the family. In the First World War (1914-1918) the castle was badly damaged and later, from 1923 to 1928, restored. It is privately owned.
