Bardo is a district of the independent city of Eisenach in Thuringia. He is right on the river Werra.

Location

Geographically located in the middle Warta Werra valley and on the eastern edge of Ringwood on the left (western) bank of the Werra. The highest point of the district is located in the southern slope of the keel forest (300 m ), the spatial location itself is 196-198 m above sea level and was until the construction of flood protection levees along the Werra highly flood risk. The site is bordered to the west by the Hessian community Herleshausen (Werra - Meißner-Kreis ), followed in Thuringia, the place horse village (community herb Hausen, Wartburg district) in the north, the east, the Eisenach Districts Neuenhof and Hörschel and Göringen in the south.

History

Bardo was mentioned on 1 May 1279 as a viscount the near Brandenburg sold the place to the Eisenach Catherine's Monastery, this is so far the oldest written proof of the place.

The place Warta established on a ford instead of the Werra for their control and protection at times on the adjacent high banks of a watchtower - a wait was located. For the district, now also the site of the fabled court Spierau at the foot of the keel forest.

The place belonged to the late Middle Ages to the Saxon- Thuringian Office Creuzburg, the church was a branch of the Neuenhofer parish. In 1870 there were 25 houses and 145 inhabitants. At the time, the place was blessed with the most fertile soils of the Eisenach area.

On April 1, 1945, the place was haunted by the hostilities of World War II. In artillery bombardment of the inn was destroyed in the Herles houses street, several houses and the church damaged. Receding German soldiers blew up the bridge over the Werra.

As a result, a local government reform occurred on June 1, 1973, the merger of the municipalities Warta and Göringen into force. At this time, the place in Eisenach district was accessible only by permit for its immediate border area. The incorporation into the city of Eisenach on July 1, 1994.

The community Chronicle reported by numerous flood waters which always inflicting great damage in the village, 2007/2008, therefore, a ring dike around the local situation was set up by the Free State of Thuringia, to protect it from a 100-year flood discharge.

Policy

The district has a common district constitution with the neighboring Göringen. The Ortsteilrat voted at its meeting on 28 October 2010 Friedrich Rittweger to the district mayor of Warta and Göringen.

Attractions

The village church built in 1586 is considered the oldest and most smallest half-timbered church in Thuringia. The local situation is dominated by partly listed half-timbered houses.

Bardo has become known by the former border crossing Warta / Herleshausen between the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic.

The place is connected by the county roads 17 and 505 with the neighboring villages. On the outskirts there is a bridge over the river Werra. The nearest junction of the Federal Highway 4 is in Herleshausen two kilometers away. A section of the railway Halle- Bebra waits with breakpoints in Hörschel and Herleshausen. Only as an operating station for freight traffic, however, the Warta (Werra ) station is set up. Here began in 1907, the railway line Schwebda - Warta on the Creuzburg - led Wanfried up to Eschwege - Mihla - Treffurt. After 1945, the line was gradually decommissioned and dismantled, most recently in 1969, the portion Bardo - Mihla.
